A Press release from the Eta Beta Lambda chapter of Alpha
Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc.:
ALPHA PHI ALPHA TEAMS UP WITH DEPARTMENT OF TRANSPORTATION
TO ADOPT HIGHWAY IN NORTHEAST WICHITA.
The Eta Beta Lambda chapter of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity,
Incorporated announces its adoption of a Kansas highway. The chapter was
inspired by the fraternity’s Alpha
Phi Alpha Goes Green Initiative.
This program
encourages chapters to participate in neighborhood clean ups and recycling, in addition to education about
reducing pollution and paper wastes. The Eta Beta Lambda chapter, in the spirit of this initiative, is
working in cooperation with the Kansas
Department of Transportation’s Adopt
a Highway program, and has adopted a portion
of Interstate 135 Highway between mile markers 11 and 9 (the WSU exit) for cleanup.
KDOT already
has dedicated a portion of Interstate 135 Highway to our fraternity brother Rev. Dr.
Martin Luther King, Jr. We hope this will send the message that the cleanup of our neighborhood starts here, and we hope to inspire
more with our actions. This undertaking was first announced at the
Kansas District Convention of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc. by chapter
president Marcus Maxwell at Wichita State University on March 6th.
The Eta Beta Lambda
chapter will begin its inaugural cleanup of I – 135 on April 24th
which also is the founding day of the Eta Beta Lambda chapter.
